WANTED: GPX Tracks of long distance trips

Hello together!

i'm a software developer from germany and
just finished my trip from Munich to Vladivostok.
While riding i had hundrets of ideas what i could "code" for bikers like us.

I'm living in Bangkok now and finally started with this project i had in mind.
The "Motorcycle round the world planner"

It is basically just a map with Waypoints for RTW Bikers, it will show Bikerclubs, MustSees, Borders, Shipping Stories, bikerfriendly Lodging... ...AND Tracks of other people.
The intention of the project is to make the planning of a big trip easier, if you can see on an interactive map which borders are open, what places are there to visit, roads worth riding... it could really become a nice tool.

It's always helpful to see which trips(tracks) other people have done, for that reason i'm collecting GPX tracks.

So if you have done a bigger trip in the past and logged everything with your gps, i would be very happy if you could send me your tracks.

Things to consider:
  • - they will be accessible on the internet
  • - i will remove the timestamps for privacy and size reasons
  • - i will use the Douglas Peucker Algorithm with whatever settings needed to shrink the filesize to ~2MB (otherwise the user experience would be very bad)

later i also want to show the name of the persons who done this trip with a link to their website and contact information (only if you want this!)
If someone sees that another person went to an area where you are very unsure how to get there, what is needed... ...it would be good if you could contact them

The project is absolutely alpha by now, but if you want to have a look what the heck i'm talking about you might check Map - Round The World Planner for Bikers. Server is super crappy, give it some time to think

Alternatively here is a screenshot:

Thanks!
Moritz

PS: gpx tracks get very small once zipped, please do so.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
