ooty(south india) to london(england)

hello fellow hubbs!

this is a trip thats been long due and have gotten around deciding on the month of departure, May 2011. the date is yet to be decided.

had a few queries;

when applying for visas does one have to mention that the trip is an overland journey??

this is what i could figure till now; delhi(india), kathmandu(nepal), lhasa(china), kashgar(china), bishkek(kyrgyzstan), tashkent(Uzbekistan), Ashgabat(turkmenistan), tehran(iran)?? , Ankara(turkey), Istanbul(turkey), sofia(bulgaria) or athens(greece), bucharest(romania), budapest(hungary), vienna(austria), prague(czech republic), berlin(germany), we can do the whole european gambit of going into switzerland, italy, france, belgium, denmark, spain, portugal and then back to wherever the channel border crossing is into England and there on to London!!! its an approximate of fourteen countries. After turkey i have avoided all countries that dont fall under the EU......

from the above list of countries i gather that only Iran requires a CARNET. I am hoping that if thats the case that i could avoid it completely and take an alternate route through kazakhstan?!

My question is; am i right that none of the above mentioned countries require a 'CARNET'?

Would appreciate all the possible feedback. :clap:

hello,
I dont know about carnets in these countries, but its easy way of getting across for sure. Other way, you will have to pay duty in each country and while exiting the country you will get back full or part of the duty.
I am doing some reseach on how to get carnets in india for my own trip. this is what i have found out: Southern Automotive association of India(SAAI, chennai) will issue a carnet for around 4000rs + 3.5 times the valuated price of the bike.
What bike are you planning your trip with?...Is it registered in India?
And for your visa research, you havent mentioned your country of Origin.

Hey!

Good to know that the countries mentioned fall under the EU! hence no Carnet required.:D

I am an Indian citizen. I plan to do the drive in a 4X4 if i dont need the Carnet, if not in an old ambassador!

I was coordinating with the WIAA, mumbai for the Carnet. you could try them as well.

Thank you both for your inputs!

beerchug cheers!
