(Oily) Hair of the Dog remedies

Does anyone know the best way to get sump oil out of dog hair? One of my idiot hounds managed to clear a bin and land in a tray of used sump oil, before showing me what he had managed by jumping on me. I have tried fairy liquid, coconut shampoo and swarfega and now we are both sick of me trying to keep a lathered up nutter in a bath tub. He is still pretty oily, anyone had this problem before?

I had similar thing happen but with not quite so much oil; some on his face and back from climbing under my bike to look at the sump-plug.

Problem is that my dog is jet-black so I didn't notice the oil until he'd "itched" himself; along the hall wall, up the stairs, lounge carpet, washing machine, kitchen units, etc, etc. All I can say is that a dog would make a pretty good paintbrush.

I used white spirit on the inanimate objects and we ended up using moisturiser (maybe E45) to loosen up the oil, followed by dog shampoo on the mutt.

Have fun !!!

Sounds daft but the best thing I've used for shifting oil is Dove soap. I've also heard that baby shampoo does a pretty good job but haven't tried it.

We had a cat once that dipped its back legs up to the hips (do cats have hips?) in a bucket of sump oil. The vet shaved its legs. It was perhaps the funniest thing I've ever seen.

If I shaved the dog he would look even more like a pig (he already does), he jumped in a load of stagnant water and a lake out in the Peak district so that got a lot of it. Now he has landed on his tail after trying to jump over a wheelie bin (and failing). It's a dog life, eh?

Thanks for the tips everyone, ketchup on standby!!
