Music for overlanding

How about your favorite music for the trip. I don't think regular roadtrip music does it for extended overland trips. How about music that would get in the mood for crossing Central America or traveling through Africa.

This was the British motoring programme Top Gear’s all-time top 5 driving songs as voted for by viewers. I think they were given a limited pool to choose from.

5. Highway Star - Deep Purple
4. Born To Be Wild - Steppenwolf
3. Bat Out Of Hell - Meat Loaf
2. Radar Love - Golden Earring
1. Don't Stop Me Now – Queen

I can see why you might prefer something a bit more eclectic for overlanding in Africa or South America. How about Manu Chao?

I love lists too. Just keep the Landy is a really low gear and the windows open the day you get to the above. :)

Not sure how Dido sneaks in there either despite her being an Arsenal supporter.

Get thee some Fela Kuti, a Nigerian afrobeat artist who was big in the 70's and 80's, now deceased. Think James Brown, but African. I love this guy, and his story is interesting too, he was very anti-government, was arrested numerous times and once married 27 women simultaneously (divorcing them simultaneously a few years later). His son, Femi Kuti plays good music too.

Whatever turns you on, or rocks your boat.

Olieseems to have a god idea, and quite a good mix of albums - some will certainly be more interesting/challenging than others - do ou have to listen al the way thru if you don't like it??

I have always tried to have a mix/variety of music dependant on my mood.

Listening all the way through - thats debatable!

My wife says no to listening all the way through, I say yes!

The rule is if we are on the road at 2pm, we listen to the next album ........

But we're making it up as we go along really :)
