Money question when crossing many countries

Hello,

That's my first message on the HUBB, I hope Im posting in the right place...

This summer I'm leaving for a 6 weeks trip with my gf on our KTM. We're going to cross Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Syria, Jordania, Turkey, Greece, Montenegro, Albania, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy and then get back to home in France.

Many countries, many currency... and I don't know exactly how much I'll spend in each country. So how do you deal with with money while crossing many countries ? You go to a cash withdrawal with your credit card and get money in each country ? You take a lot of euros/dollars before leaving and change it in change offices in all these countries ?

I hope I'm clear...

Thanks for the reply
aurel

My partner and i are doing pretty much the exact same trip Aug/Sept and we'll be taking Euros in change and just using ATM's in each country that does'nt accept Euros.Even if you can't find an ATM exactly when you need one, chances are you'll be able to get by with Euros being as most of those countries either have,or are limbering up to,join the EU.

currency

as for the part Turkey, Greece, Montenegro, Albania, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, €uro is just fine, happily accepted everywhere. In Greece, Slovenia, Montenegro and Italy, it´s official anyways, Bosnia has convertible marks, which is directly associated with the €uro. A bankcard to get small amounts of local currency makes it even easier. ATMs available all over , also in Albania... Albanian Leks almost impossible to rechange anywhere outside the country though
happy travels

mike

note of caution - I nearly had a bad incident in Albania when I filled up with petrol and tried to pay in Euros. Everyhwere else had been fine taking Euros but this one guy had never heard of them (or so it seemed). In the end I managed to buy some euros from the next truck that pulled in. The next day I went to double check that another place would take my euros before I filled up and managed to offend them by inadvertantly questioning their countries state of development. Bloody donkey farmers (joke!).

Pour ma part, je te recommande des euros avec toi et de les changer au fil des pays que tu traverses... dans les endroits surs, tu peu utiliser ta CB...

Bonne route et bon trip

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
