Love on the road?

Long story short- I met my future wife while riding in Ecuador. We met last year after I raced the Vuelta a la Repubilca, the national rally. I was actually out on a date with the receptionist from the customs office (I was trying to "take one for the team" and help my moto bretheren get their bikes out of customs faster in the future) when I met my future wife. I spent the evening going back and forth between the two lovely girls, dancing with one then the other. The next day, I took my future wife for a ride on my race bike (you should have heard her scream when I did wheelies). We had an intercontinental long distance relationship for about a year and we will be married on January 28, 2006, in Quito.

I know Lou (of Punky and Lou) met his wife while recovering in Lima. Anyone else get married out on the road?

No stories of quickies on the beach or behind the tire shop, just serious relationships, please...

Hi Jim. Is that the woman you were trying to meet up with while we were having diner in Quito? Congratulations! The woman I was with that night and I are getting married too. But we didn't meet on the road.

"It was in another lifetime, one of toil and blood,
Where blackness was a virtue, and the road was full of mud,
I'd come in from the wilderness, a creature void of form,
'Come in', she said, 'I'll give you, shelter from the storm'"
-Bob Dylan

It was kinda like Bob said when I arrived in Istanbul after doing some hard yards through a Central Asian winter. I wanted nothing more than to stop in one place for a while. I met a small, charismatic Turkish girl and wound up living with her and her brother for 2 months, also studying Turkish 20 hours a week (she didn't speak English). The relationship got pretty volatile towards the end, but it remains the most intense and unique experience of my life.
We remain friends, and we still correspond in Turkish from time to time.

Pete,
Good to hear from you. No, she wasn't the one I was seeing when you were there. That one was from Bombay, India, of all places. And not Berta's daughter, tho that one seriously wants to find a nice gringo- I tried to set her up with a friend... This one was a secretary for the comandante up on the 3rd floor inside the main building.
