How do you know if a 2nd hand bike is a fair price?

Hi,
I am looking at buying a 2nd hand moto in Peru but cant seem to find any buy/sell websites or guidelines on fair prices and resale value of bikes. Can anyone offer any advice on how or where to buy a bike and how to decide if its a fair price?
Thanks
Paul

Buy a local newspaper or motorcycle magazine and look in the for sale add's.
Go to a bikeshop and look at the prices.
Check what the price is for a new bike.

If that does not work and if this is the bike you want and it is a price you think it is worth for you, why bother about the "right" price.

Well, as a noob here you should search for information first before to start to ask. Here are many threads about buying and selling in South America, then usually to ask specific local details if you don’t speak any Spanish I will recommend you to contact the HU Communities, where provably only local will be able to reply particulars facts.
Have in mind that usually each country have their own laws and regulations about a foreigner buying or selling a vehicle also about customs regulations what means if you will be allowed to ride and take that vehicle outside Peru or inside others countries, then also you will have to find out if it will be possible to sell it in the country you pretend…

About prices as Jan suggest you, local bikers and bike’s media will be the best recourse, again the HU Communities could be your first ally.

So go to:

The HUBB - Search Forums ONLY searches the HUBB, and not well. Use Site Search to search everywhere.

Maybe the local Ebay will give you some landscape:

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
