long-term storage in Europe?

I've got a US-spec Yamaha GTS1000 with me here in Croatia. I'm considering storing the bike somewhere in Europe, rather than shipping it back to the US. I'm interested in storage for 9~12 months.

Does anyone have any recommendations for secure, affordable long-term storage facilities in western Europe? I'd prefer someplace with easy public-transportation access to a major airport.

Hi there!

This is not absolutely close to public transport, but you can store it at our garage if you want - it's private in a rural area, the garage is locked and it will be in good company ;-)

I'm sure my parents don't want heaps of EUROS for that and I can pick you up if necessary!
I'm living near Olpe in Germany - the next Airports are Cologne, Dortmund, Düsseldorf - and quite a few more - we are south east from the Ruhr Valley and it's about an hour drive from Dortmund - the train connections directly are poor, but I could pick you up close by (e.g. Hagen, Lüdenscheid, Olpe)
Frankfurt would be not too far either (around 1,5 h with a car).

If you're interested drop me a mail...

P.S. I'm sure you'll like driving here either ;-)

If needed I can look around for you to find a place to store your bike. Have some friends that have lots of room. Sure we can find a place to leave your bike safely.

Closest airports are Brussel Nat. (Belgium), Schiphol (Holland, 1.5 hours from Brussels by train) and Paris (1.2 hours by train from Brussels).

Pick up and drop off can be arranged.
Drop me a mail if I need to ask and look around.

Pieter.

You probably have already sorted something out on storage, but if you haven't, Stefan Knopf at KnopfTours.com stores motorcycles, in addition to m/c rentals, tours and insurance. Don't forget to tell Stefan where you heard about them!

Thanks for all the suggestions. As it turns out, I put the bike in storage in Italy (easily accessible via public transportation from Milan)...and within easy riding to the Dolomiti and the French Alps.

Hope to see you the next time I'm riding in Europe.

For future reference, what does bike storage(safe/reputable) in Europe cost per month. Thanks

Hmm, I could offer to store the one or other bike in my barn (it's a properly walled barn with a proper roof) at no charge, provided you're willing to pick up the bike before I leave for my overland trip through Africa (planned to begin in March/April 2005, so you've still got a bit of time).
I live some 70km south of Frankfurt (resp. 25km north of Heidelberg, just 5km off the A5 motorway.
There are two cars and three bikes in that barn already.
Right now there's space for one or two more bikes.

Just give us a shout.

Bergman and others

I might want to store my bike on the mainland for some time. Italy is number one on my list, alps and Africa close by. Do you have any contacts that I might be able use. I will start my trip next year and end jan. 2004

Hey there Mark I have just finished a trip through Eastern Europe and may be taking off for work in Antarctica for work and was wondering if you had any room in that ol barn of yours. I'd be much abliged and would be back in plenty of time for you to head out on your trip. Check my profile and email me. Thanks so much. Fellow Cycler, Ethan
