language to learn

Hi, I'm planning on rtw next year and I reckon I should try to learn another language. What do you think would be the best conversational language class to take? I've been thinking French, but I'm not sure.

Great idea, a few words of their language helps a lot! Which language? - it all depends on where you want to go!

South America - Spanish for sure!

Asia - where do you want to spend time? MANY languages to learn!

Russia? That's easy. Russian!

Africa - tricky - north Africa is French or Italian as well as of course Arabic - but the dialects are quite different, try and get a teacher from the right area, it will help. To a native speaker it's not important, but I can tell you that to a non-native the same word can sound like two different words when it's from e.g. Tunisia and Egypt. They will understand you either way if you have some basic words.

Try and learn the "top 50" words in all the languages you need for where you are going. WeE hope to have a database system soon that will have all the top 50's for as many languages as possible sometime soon.

If you do collect a bunch of words let me know!

I pick up a 1966 Ducati 250 single in Australia in September of next year. I know it's an odd choice, but that's okay, I don't have any common sense.

I'll probably be looking for work as I go, so I'll see how it turns out.

I want to see New Zealand, Japan, India, Madagascar and Africa. Well, lots of places actually, but those are the places I really want to see.

Your Top 50 phrases sounds great. I'm sure it'll be up before I leave.
