+1 with MyOwnWay, kindly share your actual total expense if you did that for $6k or over the limit? Thanks!

I spent 6 months going from Texas to South America. Went as far as Santiago, Chile before heading back up to Lima, Peru to fly home. I was with a passenger, and we were as frugal as possible for the entire trip. Camping, cheapest hotels, cheapest meals, cooking for ourselves.

Total cost was ~$7k, including Darien Gap crossing but not accounting for the money we made selling the bike or the plane ticket home (cancelled out).

So average was about $40 per day for two people.

But we did not do that last ~4,000 miles to TDF and back. The fuel cost for that last leg would have significantly added to our costs I think (not to mention make everything extremely rushed). Also, depending on your luck and ability the darien gap crossing cost can vary to a large degree. It was about $450 total for 2 people and a bike on my trip.
