Bead Popper
 

Not homemade,but cheap and effective. The Bead Popper was designed by AHRMA racer Tim Stancill. It is a 4oz. resin chisel looking thing that you hammer between the tire and rim. Works like a charm.
It is listed in the Riderwearhouse catalog for $20.00.

G/C clamp is all you need.
Before you start clamping down on the tire, stick a tire iron onto either side of the tire. Clamp down on the tire irons with the G/C clamp...and the bead will break.

Also, if you aren't sure your spoked rim is tubeless, check the bottom of the rim to see if the spokes come out. The spokes would be L shaped.
