What Bikes can be found in South America?

hi there everybody!

Im thinking about riding south america in the future and was wandering what bikes can be found around the continent, particularly Argentina as ill be starting in BsAs.

Ive recently completed Vietnam on a Minsk and have a love for old classic shapes and would love something on the classic side, anyone know of anything like that knocking about? A Norton or a Triumph would be amazing!

look forward to hearing from you all

Chris

I saw one Norton plus quite a few old Triumphs and BSAs in B.A. Dunno what is for sale or how often, but Javier at Dakar Motors (Google) mentioned knowing of someone who restores Triumphs for resale. If you are serious, maybe talk to him. Expect to pay more than you would in Europe or USA (would be my guess).

Hope that helps.

I'm pretty sure you can't take a new bike out of Argentina until you've owned it for 12 months.

And they are very expensive too. I think it works out cheaper bringing one from the US.

Plenty of travellers are looking to sell their bikes in Buenos Aires at the end of their trip, especially at Dakar Motos.

Keep your eyes pealed on the for sale section on the HUBB and contact Javier (Dakar Motos) a few months before you get there.

By far the cheapest and easiest way for you to get your hands on a bike.

Hi, buying in Argentina without a DNI is a disaster. Then don't even think about taking it out of the country. Complicated. Speak with Xfiltrate. He lives out that way.

Ship a bike down and ride it back is my advice. Say hight to Javier and the guys. I8'll be back soon.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
