Giving it all up: Advice Sought

I have been thinking of giving it up and heading off in the spring, primarily around Europe, eastern, southern warm Europe, mabey over to Egypt for around 3/4 months; maybe longer, (beats Glasgow). I have been biking for a good few years, and done this in the past about 25 years ago, so I am not a novice or a born again biker, but still feel a little threatened by it all. I scare my self at the thought, and I'm not a lover of camping, but hey ho I'll survive! Any thoughts from others in a similar position any advise.

In my opinion, Egypt is designed for 2 week trips, 10 day diving liveboard and 4 days looking at Egypt things. Positively not 3/4 months and very positively not on a moto. Go round the Black Sea instead, Turkey is magic. Ride safe.

p.s. Steller beer gives you gippo tummy, Lighthouse doesn´t but tastes worse. Efis is OK.

As far as should you do it is concerned the answer is a most definite yes, I have never met anybody who has packed it all in, gone off travelling and regretted it.
Egypt is a fairly problematic and expensive destination because of the carnet needed to get in, it might be possible to do it without one, search this site for more info on that. There are many other destinations on the European mainland to keep you busy for 3/4 months from Finland to Portugal, Ukraine to Greece, virtually all without buying a visa.
Plan your trip around the comfortable weather, down aouth in the spring, up north mid summer and back down to Turkey or Morocco in the autumn.
You don't say what bike you will be taking, what ever bike you have will be up to this trip, no GS needed, but if you are prepared to potter along on a smaller one they funds will last a lot longer, enjoy.:funmeteryes:

Hi,
I don't have a mortgage or kids to worry about, so my descision is easier than for some, but I do have a decent job that I'm gladly walking away from in September.
My thoughts are this......
If you're even discussing it on here, you know it's what you want to do.
The thought of passing up an oportunity to travel for a decent length of time and regretting it later doesn't bare thinking about.

Happy travels
Sam

Not wanting to do down your dream (go, you'll have a blast wherever you end up, although Egypt..?), but 3 or four months is a slightly longer than usual holiday, it's not selling your house and riding round the world for years on end, so you could make it up as you go along. You may find that 6 months is a convenient time to be away because this is a normal short term let period for a house. If you're not selling and planning to leave your property unlet/empty your insurance probably won't be valid after 30 days.
