Fixer in Port Said, Egypt?

Hi,

We're planning on taking the ferry from Turkey to Port Said and am a bit worried about the admin on arrival in Egypt.

Has anyone entered this way recently? Any tips / experience of a good fixer?

Many Thanks

Eslam - Fixer in Egypt

Hello,

I am coordinating my friends trip, he is in Turkey and I am trying to arrange his ferry & fixer from Port Iskenderun, Turkey to Damietta, Egypt (arrival port has changed from Port Said). I have telephoned and emailed Eslam to arrange for him to meet Russell at Port Damietta and he has quoted a price of 3,500 Egyptian Pounds for a 2 day service. Can I ask what was included when you paid 500 egyptial dollars and when was this? As I am wondering why he is charging so much!

I am a little confused and your help would be much appreciated.

Jessica.

Hey Jessica,

Never agree with the 3.500LE that means hey wants €460 for 2 days of work. Even if it include all the costs it's still to much.

My costs by entering Egypt:
Permission for the first 3 months is 520LE (you have to pay this either if you want to stay 1 month)
Insurance for three months is around 180LE
Egyptian plates 70LE for the entire stay
Copies of papers 30LE
Visa $15 one month

I paid al together 50LE of tips.

Cheers Richard

Thanks all. Will certainly give Eslam a call.

C &D - Did you take the ferry from Iskenderun? We're in Ankara tonight, and heading there over the next couple of days.

Jessica - Where did you hear about the change of destination (ie Damietta)? We talked to the office there yesterday, and they didn't mention it...

Richard, did you do all of this by yourself or did you get a fixer to help you? Eslam said that the cost includes his fee, insurance, no: plates, stamp in the carnet and the garage fee. it works out at £309 altogether.

The ferry that Russ is using is Sisa Shipping and they emailed me to say the port had changed to Damietta. Russ is at Iskenderun today, it was supposed to sail at 12 p.m. but it is now sailing at 9.30 p.m. tonight. Which ferry company are you using?

Hey mate,

At first I came in from Jordan, but the costs are similar and definitely not almost 4 times as much. I had a helper but got him when I arrived, there will be always people around. My helper was by the way assigned to my by I guy who had some authority at the port.

Keep in mind that how friendly they are they want to earn money of you and bargain is always a must.

Cheers.
