Does charging up electrical equipment drain bike's battery?

Hi,

As a complete dunce on electrics:blushing:, could someone please tell me how much of a drain on the bike's battery the charging of electrical equipment from a cigarette lighter socket causes?

Cheers Derek.

Charge rates

kind of a open ended question that. How high can a frog jump? It depends on the draw of the equipment. Most bikes have a bit of extra electrical energy when the engine is running. If you are not sure you need to check or have someone check how much current the device takes, This can be done with a accurate ampmeter or buy checking the specs on the device. Of course if the engine isn't running the battery will eventually run down. Thankfully a lot of the devices such as cell phones don't require a lot of electrical current to charge so the effect is hardly noticed. I'd be glad to check it for free if you are happen to be in montana usa some time.

depends what your charging and if your still running the engine.
of course charging running things from your vehile electrics will drain power but if your running the engine and producing more power than you are using it is not a problem.

if your charging things with the motor running no prop, as battery on bike is being charged. if your not running the engine then yes it will drain battery but i would guess charging your mobile or a couple of AA batteries for an hour or so and you should be ok.

ps is that Big Brian E the ttr 320 stoppy king?

Thanks!

Thanks Fellas:smile3:,

It seems I'll be OK, especially if I run the engine during charge ups.

Bill, I hope to be travelling thru Montana next Summer on my way RTW. So I may just take you up on your offer if i can find you:thumbup1:!!

Cheers Derek.
