China?

My self and 3 mates are starting trip planning for an extensive tour. As are most of the fine folk that visit HU. To whom we now turn for advice and doubt for the last time.

Our current hurdle is getting through China without the need for a guide. Is that even possible? We understand there are quite a few permits required from the Ministry, Military, Police and Provence's.

Can any one shed some light on this.

Have a great weekend all

Exclamation China and its Guides

Assuming you're going by motorbike Matt- then the bad news is that YES you MUST have a guide if you are taking your own bikes.
Any foreigner with a foreign registered vehicle has to go through a Government approved travel agency to get the permits and they send the guide to meet you at your designated border entry point and will be with you throughout your stay- you need to transport them and pay for their accommodation and food as well as for their services.

Ask around here on the HUBB for recommended travel agents and approximate costs, generally bikers will link up with overland travellers in something with four wheels so that the guide can go in that vehicle while you all share the costs.
I know Navo are a good company although not the cheapest.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll have a great trip.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
