Buying XT600 in South America
Hi.
My husband and I are considering doing a half-year trip to South America. Usually we do our traveling on XT600 Does anybody know if this kind of bike is available in South America? Is it better to rent or buy? How much it can cost for half a year period? Thank you |

Its hard to find a motorcycle for rent in Southamerica. I have found only Spaarwater KTM in Chillan/Chile, Walter Nosiglia in La Paz/Bolivia and Werner Gloede in Valencia/Venezuela(but I think he closed his agency). Local dealers sometimes rent out small dirtbikes, but they are often in bad condition. The price per day for a KTM LC4, XL259, Tenere...)is usually 50$+ per day. No real savings for weekly rentals.
So its better to bring your own bike. Buying bikes in Southamerica is generally very expensive and registering for a foreigner is very complicated. I got high offers for my Transalp, often 100% more than it would fetch in Europe. Did not sell it because I want to ride it. Its easy to bring a bike into Chile or Argentina, as both countries have a efficient customs service at the airports, and at the borders as well. Good luck Werner Werner |
