Home again - RTW ride completed

I returned home yesterday after 12,665 miles, two flats, broken chain three times, and one non-injury crash on an unpaved road in Siberia. No other mechanical type problems whatsoever - the KLR 650 did very well.

I wasn't able to post updates on my website (www.rtwrider.net) during my journey, but will post a journal and pictures there in the next few weeks.

It was a marvelous adventure, but it's good to be home.

Welcome home Mike (great name).

Have you got the itch again yet? Planning the next ride?

Regarding future trips Mike, my wife and I have discussed a two up trip from Prudhoe Bay to Ushuaia, but this will have to wait until after she retires from working in January, 2007. And there's some doubt if we will ever actually do it.

Another ride I've longed dreamed of doing is a ride to Alaska and tour of that state. This is a definite possibility for next summer. However, after finding that the most beautiful scenery I saw on my entire trip was in Montana and Idaho over the last two days, what I would most like to do is something like a month long tour of the Canadian and US Rocky Mountain region. I've ridden a lot of it, of course, but never at a totally relaxed pace, exploring lots of back roads, stopping at historical sites, etc. One of the many things I gained an appreciation for on my RTW trip is how beautiful the country is right close to home and right now my biggest "itch" is to see more of it. But, Alaska is also very inviting!

Mike

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
