How's Helge doing?

We get BIKE a month late ... will check it out if it ever shows up. The Brits take the copies they haven't sold in the UK at the end of the month ... and send them to America. Thanks guys.

For a while Helge was promoting his own tour company. I heard a rider got killed on one of his tours ... haven't seen an ad or anything about the company since. Anyone have first hand info on this or a link? I think his tours cost $6 or $7,000 USD. Anyone ride on one know details?

Helge was the first guy to really do RTW on a bike and document it with really good photos. We had a copy of his book but we gave it away. Excellent.

Helge lacks the personality and humor of a Ted Simon or Austin Vince. But he'd be my first choice if my BMW broke down ... but after following his rides on BMW's ... I'm convinced I'd never own one ... or drag one across the Darien.

I met Helge at one of his slide shows, he was living/working with Tourtech out of Seattle, probably owns the company by now. Good business man.
His show had great photos but he had no story to go with it. He seemed to attack travel rather than enjoy it. Each his own I guess. Really hitched his wagon to BMW.

It's true that a rider got killed, if I remember right he crashed with a huge truck somewhere in Russia.

Helge is still in business, GlobeRiders - Your Motorcycle Adventure Touring Company - Come Ride the World with Us!

... you have to remember English is not his first language. Humour is very difficult to convey successfully in a foreign language, but I think he does an admirable job if you take the time and listen. He's made me laugh a few times.

Ted Simon is a nice guy, but not that funny IMHO. Austin, well, he's the man - no argument there.

That's true. The way to tell a story for a US-group is totally different then the way stories are told in Norway. This goes for both humor and how you focus the story. But Helge has been in US for a long time so it's a bit strange if he hasn't adapted.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
