bike lessons

hi all

been a member on this forum for 2to3 years and find it extremly usefull for my day dreaming escapes.
I've done 1 trip long time ago on back of a lorry(not much culture just a lot drinking and rushing through the middle east.)

my second trip was driving to mongoliain in a banger(also part of org.tour kinda, not much culture)
And the bug has bitten well and truly, all i think about is travelling overland,i've all ready bought an ideal vehicle in a 80 series toyota lc diesel.
Now my biggest dilema is that the missus is not keen on travelling(not by road anyway)and as some of you know the size of this vehicle it would not be ethical to be trudling along producing all that co2 on my own.
So my thoughts have turned to biking,THE ONLY PROBLEM IS I CAN'T RIDE,well i've done the cbt but due to work i couldn't continue so that elasped without me taking further rides.
So i was wondering if threre are any places specially in europe where i can take some lessons.Residential would be ideal.
I looked BMWsite where they give lessons but they are asking for mad money.Any pointers would be nice

I trained with Camrider in Peterborough, and they were / are excellent - taught me to ride for the test, yes, but soooo much more besides. If your CBT has run out, then you'll need a new one before you take further training. I did my Direct access in a week (or would have, if I'd passed 1st time :innocent:); 125cc to whatever in 5 days is quite good going! I'm not sure where in London you're based, but below is the link to Camrider near you (possibly), in case you're interested? There might be cheaper trainers (there were here in Peterborough, but not much) but, as with all things in life, you tend to get what you pay for. Hope everything works out!

Right enough, BMW will be top dollar.

I suggest you go along to the Ace cafe on the north circular (A406) and see what is advertised there; even if you don't see something suitable you can enjoy the visit there, just about any day of the week.

Also take a look in the motorcycle press for schools - I can't see why you want to go residential because that just increases the cost to you.
Also, in Europe? Why? Learning on the wrong side of the road!!

For the press, the obvious one is the weekly MCN but there is also a freebie (pick it up at the Ace) called motorcycle monthly (so that will be MCM then).
There will be loads of riding schools across London.

there are hundreds of local motorbike forums a google search found this:

LB Community Forums

a suggestion is post a thread on there and ask for recomendations for local training schools??

I can understand the want to go residential because it can be a break away from the norm if you've got the money to pay for it.

If you fancy a trip to Bristol I can recommend:
Kickstart Motorcycle Training run CBT, A2, and DAS courses in Bristol and Clevedon

But you'll have to find a local B&B to stay at as I don't think they offer residential.

hi
thanks Endurodude
i did my cbt with passmasters @ northholt and they are a good bunch of people,so if i did go for another 1 i'll probably go with them

Walkabout the only reason i mentioned europe is because i thought i can combine a break, from everything really plus my other half and grownup kids have never been happy with me taking up on 2 wheels, thats why i just wanted to go away and do it.

FMfox thanks for the link, i'm already looking at the forum and getting a lot of ideas so thanks once again.

Kids!!!!!!!!!!

Grown up kids! Just ignore them, but I know the other half is a totally different thing.
You have given your offspring the best education that you could source and good manners, after that it is up to them to live their lives and for you to get on with yours - just my 2 cents, but you could try telling them that I said sodoh

hi walkabout

i know what you mean but they are only concerned about my well being, methinks,oh and i think they are worried about me showing them up by tearing around on some hairy machine in my tight leathers

hi nomad r, you would be welcome return to us at passmasters, we could cbt you and advise on how much training you would need for a das test! if you want to train abroad you would need appropriate language skills and a licence counterpartfor that country, that would entail residence in that country! not all tests are the same as the uk test (yet) i suggest you pass the uk theory test and then give us a ring, the number has'nt changed! hope to see you soon!
