Bike hire Australia

I've got the big 50 coming up this year and despite calls for a big party I think
I'd rather do my own thing and spend it on two wheels. I'm looking at doing
Sydney - Perth - Darwin - Sydney and probably a few other places on route.
I'm running a ZX9r here in NZ which isn't the ideal tool so I thought I'd
swallow the cost and look into hiring. I quite fancy a small single (250) but
common sense says a BM GS650.
Has anyone got any experience of bike hire in OZ or can recommend a hire company

buy in Australia

Hiring would cost an arm and both legs, I would go for the buy option as well.

The Other Option

These guys just shipped to Aussie from NZ, in case you want to add buying here and shipping or taking your ZX to the mix. They have all the details of price etc.

My experience is that if you're using the bike for less than about a month, it's cheaper to rent than to do a buy/sell deal.

Enjoy touring in Aus; it's a great place to tour on a motorcycle!

Look at Bikesales.com.au
Whereas in the UK you can pick up a car or bike for a few hundred quid, if that's your budget, over here in Oz the same crap old machines are offered for thousands. I've seen 10 yr old BMW Dakars offered for more than what they were sold for new in the UK!
Bike rentals are again very expensive. Bike tours, eg off road in Cape York, use very basic bikes and they are rented for far more than equivalent tours on new KTMs in Spain. The cost of a DRZ400 will cost hundreds for a day's play in Oz.Buyer beware.

Australia Rental

In 2009 ,, I did Sydney to Gold Coast by sea coast then down over inland. Rented a Harley Road King, for a week,,, indeed it was an arm, leg and a kidney or two. Also insurance is very high for non resident.
Understand ,, it was a Harley ,, but other bikes were equally up there,, also huge deposit.
Probably better to buy then sell.

Colsan, Oz ride

Hi Colsan,

Why don't you join the Ulysses Club here in Australia? You will be amazed about the support, help, info, comradeship etc. among the members. Know of quite a few overseas riders, which used memberbikes during their trips here in Oz. Ulysses > Home I have lend mine to one.
Agewise, you would qualify. Juniors minimum 40, full membership 50 years of age.

Just a thought, but worth while looking into.

Cheers
RM
