Motorcycle course

I'm looking for a beginner motorcycle mechanic course in London over the next few months. Does anyone have any suggestions? I applied for the course in Merton College a few weeks ago, but they didn't even confirm my application, or reply to my phone or email queries, so I'm assuming that they're going to display the same level of competence (ahem!) in the teaching of the course itself..

Is anyone else in or near London interested in doing a course like this? I'd imagine it would be easier to convince colleges to hold a course if a couple of people were interested.

Alternatively, is anyone out there interested in hosting a course? The City & Guilds exams would be a good standard to aim at, and I, for one, would be very interested.

I'm surprised that you did not get any response from Merton college. I did their C&G motorcycle mech. 1 yr course last year and it was very good, I am also doing the advanced one this year (not C&G) and I did all the registration by emails.

Maybe you applied too late? The term starts early september. The C&G one is very popular so need to apply very early.They have various 1 term courses as well so you could join one for January term, but apply early? In any case apply early,a s there are very few colleges doing this type of course.
I will try to dig a contact name and email address if you drop me an email. I will check in my inbox at work see if I kept their emails.
Other alternative is to go to the NEC motorcycle show. Merton college has a stand over there! Good opportunity to check what they have to offer?

Thanks for the info. I think you're right.. I applied too late (but not by much). I was hoping I could just start the course late, and put in some extra work to catch up, but alas, it was not to be.

Latest update: Merton College are starting another motorcycle mechanics course in December, subject to sufficient numbers.

Interested, anyone? I'm considering it good preparation for a trip next summer, probably across the USA + Canada.

good news! I definitely recommend that course. You may also be able to get personal advice (re any prob you have with your bike!) as well. TEachers are really good, friendly, and provide very good advice!
They have good facilities, lots of bikes (small 125 and big 600cc ) so good to pratice on their bikes before doing anything on yours!
Well that was my view anyway! Now I am much more confident to do stuff on my very precious Beemer!

Anyone know of any motorcycle maintenance courses in the North of England (I live just North of Manchester). Would need to be evening classes, though, as I'm currently working full-time trying to get the money for the big trip!!
