Hostel memberships?

As we are heading to SA soon and have been checking many threads, I am wondering about Hostel Memberships.

Is it worth purchasing a Hostel Membership(s)?
If so, which ones are the best and or best value?
Would it be best to purchase before I leave on our trip or at participating hostels?

Thanks for any advice.

Mark

I don't think that there are enough participating hostels in SA to make it worth while. It might also mean that you stay somewhere because you can get a discount rather than because you think it is the most suitable for you.

Hostal memberships

Hi, I just picked up memberships as I went along.
If you stay in a hostel and book the next through them usually give you free membership. some hostels give free membership if you stay 3 nights.
There are many groups of hostels with varying levels of cleanliness and comfort. So unless you are going to pay for a lot of different memberships up front I suggest you not bother.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info guys. We are heading to South America in a couple of weeks. As you said, we can pick up memberships there.

regards

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
