vaccinations needed for border crossings Peru-Bolivia-Chile??

Hi Folks,

does anyone have some experiences concerning vaccinations needed for the border crossing from / to Bolivia into Peru or Chile? Is there any REAL check for vaccination of yellow fever on the border(s) so that the crossing may be prohibited?

Thanks for any advise!

In Chile Bolivia and peru, isnt required by any customs or police

Maybe you should just get it.

I do believe that yellow-fever is required by immigration, but I never had
anyone check it.
Then again, it might by wise to have it anyway as it is still a pretty common
illness in South America and you might have problems comming back in your own
country (Most develloped countries demand a yellow-fever vaccination if you
return from a YF-country).

When crossing from Bolivia to Brazil 3 years ago you had to have it ( I crossed at Guajara Mirim where its up to you to get your passport stamped by finding the police station 2 miles from the border) ....there were signs advertising yellow fever vaccinations on the bolivian side of the border so they were quite militant about it and on finding this small police station i was asked to display my vaccination papers.
Also leaving Brazil to Bolivia a friend of mine told me they tried to give him a yellow fever injection until he displayed his vaccination papers. It seems either entering or exiting Brazil to Peru or Bolivia (Paraguy?????) you need it...Brazil to Argentina was no problem.....(i was only ever asked at Brazilian borders)
Bearing in mind these were less popular crossing points and still had the option to get the vaccinations at the border (but do you want to count on that??? i don't know).
They are good for ten years and are supposedly needed for some african countries and probably more....

Get the Yellow Fever Shot.

Get the Yellow Fever vaccine. It's a no-brainer. And get the card. It's about the only thing you'll need. And you will only need it to cross into Brazil in South America. Several African countries will require it. And as noted earlier, it's good for ten years, so you'll have plenty of time to plan that African leg of your journey and your vaccine will still be good when you decide to jump over the pond.

good luck and enjoy your travels.

Had it, didn't get asked for it!

Crossed into Bolivia from Peru at Lake Titicaca (Copacabana, Nov. 2006) and was never asked for the document. I had heard it was most definitely required in Bolivia but was NEVER asked for it. Couldn't hurt to have it though.

Yellow Fever vaccination only needed if you've been recently to Brazil. Even then, I doubt it would be asked for.
