So ...

We heard that the Iran/Pak border is open, but just from a traveller hoping to cross, not someone who had ...

We are arriving in Baku (Azerbaijain border crossing hopefully open) between 17th-23rd June to give the ferry to Kaz a go.

Border now open?

A german traveller we met has just been informed via Stan Tours that the Tukmen embassy are now issueing transit visas, has anyone one else heard?

We are in Tehran and the embassy here is closed til tomorrow.

We don't know whether to continue to Baku or try for the Turkmen transit visa ....

DN tours

Hi there,

We now have all our visas apart from Turkmen, but have been told that it is still very possible.

The company we are using are DN tours- ( recommended by the Tk embassy itself). Although we are leaving the UK on 5th July, they are not going to apply for our LOI until late July. they will then send it to us, and it will be delivered by our TK 'guide' from his side of the border to border officials when we get there, and they will give us a visa at the border on the spot.

Apparently around 70% of tourists get theirs at the border, and provided you have the LOI for a tourist ( DN tours say it takes around 15 days to get it ) you can still get in.

Confirmation

Whilst at the Turkmen embassy in Tehran two Polish bikers (HUBBERS) got their Turkmen 3 day transit visa.

We applied for ours, but it will be five days before we hear and our Azerbaijan visa is ready tomorrow, so we are pretty certain we will pick that up and go via the ferry instead. Can't be assed hanging round Tehran with fidgety journos trying to find a story!

Good luck, and say hello to the Gas craters for us .....

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
