Turkey-İran: Safe and opened road ?

Hi riders !
I am in Turkey (closed to Ankara) with my moto at this time / ı get the İranian visa & CPD and want to get in İran of course. The problem is, İ have heard from the french embassy in İstanbul that even the north road is not safe to get in İran. If somebody could give me fresh and reliable news about the border betwen these 2 countries, I would appreciate it a lot...
Thanks ın advance
Simon

Hi Simon,

I dont know what the embassy is thinking but the saves route is the north (actually the central) route. There is a Turkish Army controlled areas on south-east of Turkiye. This is because of the chaos in Irak. Some rebels-terrorist groups wanna leak out to Turkiye and wanna try to do some terrorist attack or wanna create unstability in Turkiye. The Turkish Army is along the south border (on Irak border) to prevent this leeking. After this little introduction here is the route that you could follow:

The best route to reach Iran from Turkiye is:

If you are in or close to Ankara follow: Ankara-Kirikkale-Yozgat-Sivas-Erzincan-Erzurum-Agri-Dogubeyazit-Iran. This is the saves route. There might be some army check points (probably not) but dont worry about it.

I am in Ankara. Drop me a line if you need more help or a cold beer.

I'd use one of the smaller border crossings, Bazaragan is said to be very busy and corrupt these days. I went through Kurdistan and used the Southern crossing at Sero. The only problem is a dearth of accommodation in the far SE.

There is another, even smaller border crossing in between the two.

Hi Mike

Hi Mike ,

We are in Istanbul today and we will leave tomorrow morning and we will be close to Ankara the day after . So if you are ready to go at this time, we can meet together , have a beer and explain our plans.
Just quickly the target for us is to reach Cambodgia passing through Iran, Turkmenistan, Ouzbekistan, kazakstan, China and Vietnam. A long road... we need to be there in december cause we are doing a humanitarian mission with an french NGO (we are from France, so if you speak french it could be easier...) called "Enfants d'Asie" and we will work there for 5months. Our plans in Iran is just to crossover the country from West to North East.

just to inform you that we are riding smallmotobikes, 125cc actually. So if you ride a big one you may be bored after 100 km at the maximum speed of 90km/h . But if you dont mind , it could be cool to rie together.

Bye
Simon

OK for the north road

hi bikers,

just to tell you the north road is ok. I passed throught few days ago.
Just be carefull at the turquish border , guys help you to get your stamps on passeports and then ask you for backshish. Just say no and it will be ok.
once in the iranian border, no problem you will be welcome by a special foreigner official guide who helps you in the CPD and passeports processus.

bye
simon
