Stolen KLR 650 in Cyprus

Hi guys,

I have had my KLR 650C stolen in Cyprus last week, I have a hunch that this has gone across to the North side. I've yet to see another one over here in Cyprus, so should stand out. It is fitted with a Vapor trip computer with aux power socket mounted on the same dash.

You never know someone may see it :(

Thanks for the reply MeCasa, looking at getting a XR650L as a replacement, once the insurance pays out that is:mchappy:

Hi peds650, I'll keep my eyes open too !

How did you manage to get a theft insurance ? I tried to get my bike insured for fire/theft and they wouldn't have it !

:scooter:

It,s fully comp (with £500Cyp excess!), got it through pancyprian insurance when I bought the bike. I now have the bike back, luckily not to much damage, cost £150 sterling to fix, so the insurance is pretty useless:thumbdown:

I wouldn't mind a 500 pound excess if I got fully comp on mine because it's 15K Euro to buy it again if it's gone :eek3:

Mind you, I would be content with just fire & theft - but they didn't wanna know... :(

Thanks for the info - I'll check those guys out :thumbup1:

Glad to hear that you and your bike were re-united.:mchappy:

As a matter of interest, how was it stolen. Was it locked(if so was it forced), alarmed etc? was it on the street, outside hostel...;was it daytime or at night; was it started or pushed away:confused1:

We take precautions against theft however I´m allways looking to learn from other peoples experiences, because, as you know better than most, the security of our bikes and other gear is a major issue for us all.

Sue and I are travelling with two bikes, and we lock them together front and back, plus mine has a steering lock. When looking for places to spend the night, we look for hostels etc that either have secure parking, allow you to roll the bike indoors at night. Sometimes when we are travelling in a particularly dodgy area I get a bit paranoid insist on a bedroom where I can see the bikes from the window! :detective:

If we are forced to park the bike in the street we look for places that have good security and park nearby, e.g. banks, police stations; failing that I lok for a street seller, park near his stall, and bung him an extra dollar to keep an eye on the bikes.

One more comment to add; whilst in Florida a police officer we spoke to pointed out that many stolen bikes are not actually started, they are simply pushed away - often a very short distance, e.g. around the corner and into a garage, or even in some cases into another room in the same motel!!

Better luck in future buddy.

Scary info :eek3:

But nice to know! Especially when we think "that couldn't happen to me" sort of thing...
