Riding through Iran alone
 

Have any women ridden through Iran alone, if so, did you have any problems? Do you have an tips?

Can't vouch for the womens perspective but should imagine you'll encounter nothing but help and assistance if my experience is anything to go by.

As long as you observe the muslim dress code and/or are unrecognisable as a woman you will almost certainly have no problems. The authorities are tough on their own people, and a little less rigid with travellers so long as you don't set out to "provoke". Cities are obviously more liberal than small towns or rural areas, but even then there can be a crackdown. An EU minister visiting had her chest painted over on press photographs, they are obsessed by skin or hair, but otherwise so friendly.
Riding a bike might offend some male ego's, maybe someone has some experience of this.

Iran is one of the friendliest country's I've ever been to, not only will you be safe but you'll love.

The young army escorts are no fun to be around for a woman travelling with her husband so I would guess on your tod no fun what so ever!

To put this comment of escorts into perspective, it is only a problem if you are going to the south east of Iran near Pakistan and Afghanistan. The rest of Iran is safe and you will not need (read be obliged) to have escorts. For us coming from Pakistan we had army cadets take our passports and hitch-hike in cars or trucks as we followed. We stopped at each checkpoint waiting for the junior cadet(s) to follow with our passports. This went on from the border (Mirjaveh/Taftan, also written Meer Jawa) until Bam. It was slow hot and unpleasant.

After the escorts stopped we really enjoyed Iran and found everyone, without exception very friendly. We obviously respected the dress codes and the local laws, ie don't take photos of government or military installations and the like.

Today mid-day 2 members of our club who are in İran now on the way to China,
have been arrested while having taken their photos with the protesting farmers
in Yazd. As it is new year holiday until wednesday in İran, we could hardly get
in touch with the authorities and 1 hour ago they are let free after 12 hours with a warning,dont take photos among protesting groups.

So we must act respestfully to the governments,and their management rules too.

I'll defiantly let you know in two months time! But from what I hear, there is no problems with single women travelers like a previous posting said, make sure you wear what is respectable.

As for taking photos of protesters, thats a tough one, even i think i would have pulled out my camera! I hope they are all right? They have now got a story we would all love to hear!
