Stolen BMW in Mongolia

Hi everyone,
just in case your going to Mongolia: Back in 1997 my green BMW R 1100 GS "Monsterkuh" (with a big 42 liter tank)was stolen in the Gobi about 200 kilometers southwest from Dalanzadgad. In 1998 I was told that my bike was found in the back of a truck close to China. In the summer of 1999 I heard that my BMW was taken from the police to Arwajcheer. If someone hears about may bike or even gets to see it please let me know. A picture would be GREAT!!! I just would like to know how my ex-BMW feels...

somehow attached to Wuedo / HPN?
wouldn't count on seeing the bike again, might get used as police-bike in some remote area in Mongolia / China.

Hi,
yes, there was a webpage about this bike. You must have crossed the Touratech-webpage (Touratech.de.) It´s the company who build the 42 liter tank for the R 1100 GS (and many more things for the traveling biker). They are also interested where the bike could be. And I think it´s a nice idea seeing a policeman riding my BMW... But we had problems with the clutch (it burned)and had te leave the bike alone in the Gobi for two nights. There was no road and we almost burried the bike completly in the sand and mud. So we felt safe. But in the stepe there are eyes everywhere... When we returned with a small truck to get the bike it was stolen. It´s a long story told with a few words. But thanks a lot for your reply. Michael

Michael: I saw a bike in Ulaanbaatar that might be yours! I live here and I have seen this bike many times, but a friend (Countpacman on HU) got a picture of it last night.

The engine number of the bike is: M2EB 3798 6042

I think it is owned by a German guy here. It is often parked outside the Khan Brau restaurant in Ulaanbaatar.

Thanks Grant. I think it must be his. How many green R1100GS bikes with aluminum panniers can there be in Mongolia?

I think I met the owner of this bmw, a german mechanic working for mercedes in ulan bator, back in summer 2000.

but I could be wrong and it was not this bike, as I dont know much about bmw models.

Hi Scott,

nope, I don't believe it's his bike either. I dug out an older travelogue from Michael from South America. His was blue with several Touratech stickers and a really fat tank. The beemer on smugmug.com seems to rather a standard GS.
