Parking outside in Poland ?
Dear All,

Any hints on how safe it is to park a motorcycle on the streets for overnigth in Poland?
Are there any secure payparks avail?
or should I just try and negotiate a place in
a big,fancy Htl even not being a guest my self?

A Polish friend says that theft is unlikely to be a problem when parked on the street, but it's better to park in a private carpark, if possible. Some districts are unsafe, so ask around. Not sure how it compares to the rest of Europe for theft. Kinda vague advice, I know, but she doesn't have a license ...

Nope, she isn't a biker (and hasn't even driven a car) but that's the advice she gave me after asking around. I'll be visiting Poland in a little over a week - drop a line if you are, too.

Hi, we have some funny jokes about stolen cars u can buy back in Poland. The truth is that most Polish people I know are really great. Nevertheless I would not park a bike in Poland (maybe in the countryside but not in any city) outside. Esp. not if u do not have a poland licence plate.

But I would not do that in Berlin or any other bigger german city as well. Countryside is different again. Anyway, all eastern countries are still quite poor, so I would not even be angry if they steal your stuff.

I parked my K100RT and R1100GS and R1150GS many times on the street in Poland and never got any thing stolen from it.
Many small hotels let you park the motorcycle inside if you ask.

We parked our bike on the street in beautiful downtown Krakow, took a walk (daytime) for about four hours, when I got back, my Arai was gone. I had it locked through the chin clasps & they just cut the strap leaving the souvenier clasps.

I learned one thing; that style of helmet lock is useless. It could have happened anywhere, here in B.C. too.

The eastern block countries are poor though, so I would be careful leaving any exposed gear on the bike for an extended period. Having said that, travelling 26 countries in Europe, that was the only theft we had.

I am now in Poland. I always go for safe parking.

I can recommend Nathan's in Warsaw, put it in their backyard. Now in Krakau, found a place within 5 minutes to put it inside.

In Krakow last summer, we met local bikers who strongly advised leaving bikes in a guarded car park (evenings and at night). There are several near the main square.

The Olympic Stadium in Wroclaw is here:

It is a cheap camp site and has very tatty huts too.

Cleopardia is a very nice campsite in Krakow. Camping and nice cabins, supermarket nearby. Friendly staff.

In Krakow, visit the old Jewish Quarter - Kazimierz - at night. It's the liveliest part of town and you'll see a few bikes around there.

If you go to Oswiecim (Auschwitz) - which you should - you will find yourself among a large number of two-wheeled visitors.

My friend who is married to a Pole told me last year to visit Auschwitz, Krakow and Wieliczka Salt Mine near Krakow. It was good advice.

am staying 7 km Oswiecim at a farmstay. Very friendly people, nice and clean room, good food. price 40 Zloty per night: www.agroturystyka.oswiecim.net

Even though situated in the middle of nowhere, both hosts each asked me to not only close, but lock every door of the house, btw.

Hi all
I've been to Poland 2003. parked my r80gs near the old town of worsaw, when got back found helmet was stolen with my right soft bag that was cut out.
later i parked in a close parking lot and the second soft bag was taken. though i was badly hit. It is not my empression of Poland people were very helpful. i had the same problem in Paris(mascot doll) and Athens (right plastic panel).
When i visited Egypt (2000) my bike was left overnight on the main street of Marsa Matrouh (near El-Razala inn)i forgot my gloves on the seat. they were wating for me in the morning, did not move a mm.

Just got back from Poland. Wroclaw, Krakow etc. Experienced no problems although I got the impression that they do exist. Just need to be a little more vigilant perhaps. Would recomend use of secure car parks which abound. Attendants usually would lock our loose kit in their office for us whilst keeping an eye on the bikes.

If U going to park daytime in major towns go for marketplace or main squares.Good thing to do is ask some waiter(/es preferbly)or shop staff to have a look at it if You parking somewhere nearby restaurant or shop.but its better to find some hotel or secured parking while parking for night.
