I don't believe they were the same couple, my info is that the Bishops were only touring Turkey.

A shop keeper in Cappadocia told us it was a group of 16 people riding two up on 8 bikes. That the last couple got behind and were passing to catch up when they went head on into a truck. The roads ýn western Turkey are not that good and the weather has been very wet.....we have been experiencing some terrible riding conditýons here.

I've read that news from Turkish newspaper Hurriyet (.com.tr) on 30th of May. They were a group of 26 people who have rented 13 bikes from Kusadasi and went to Diyarbakir and Mardin. On the way back in Diyarbakir-Silvan those couples who dropped back from the group speed-up to catch them and tried overtake another bike. Unfotunally, they hit a minibus while they are overtaking. Both Neil and Carol Bishop have been pasted away and minibus driver and a passenger has been injured. That is what newspaper says. So, take really care while riding in Turkey especialy east part because of the poor roads and altering weather conditions.

Siegrid and I are currently in Turkey on the way back from Jordan.
Traffic in Turkey is dangerous. The worst are the Dolmusses or little busses that shuttle in between villages, tourist sites,...
They are trying to be the quickest and fastest to beat concurrents. Keep your eye on them.
Truckers, taxidrivers,... are in general predictable in their steering. And if you demand or indicate you want some space (horn \ flash big light) they will most of the time try to give you some space.

Use your horn and flash your light to indicate that you are not OK with a manuever of a car comming head on. Or when you wish to pass a car yourself.
It is the only thing they understand and will get you considerable more safety.

I feel verry sorry for the Bisshops and the rest of the group.

If you still have to leave for a trip to the middle east or Southern europe (spain, italy, greece,...) consider connecting your horn with your big light. that way you only have to keep your fingers on one button.
