just soliciting some advice from those more expierenced than myself.

i am currently around san fransisco and plan on heading north to seattle washington around 800 miles. currently there is a storm advisory in affect for the west coast based on current weather reports there is no freezing weather on the coast but temperatures are around 40 degress, around 5 C.

is this trip do-able/wise with current conditions?

Currently (Jan. 8) the weather in the Portland area is a little above freezing and wet. Are you coming up I-5 or 101? I-5 could be a problem in the mountains on the CA/OR border. They've had a lot of snow recently. The crews keep the road open but the road surface condition can vary widely depending on the weather at the moment. On 101 the road sees little snow but in Oregon it has had mudslides in various places. Again the crews reopen the road quickly but the next storm seems to bring more mud, often in a new place. Using 101 to the OR border and then heading NE to Grants Pass and joing I-5 will avoid the worst of both problem areas. If looking just to get to Seattle the fastest way I'd take I-5 and chance the pass. I-5 at Siskiyou Summit looking North | KATU.com - Portland, Oregon | Oregon Pass Cameras shows the traffic camera in the pass. Currently (at 10:30 AM) it is 25 degrees F and looks like it may be bare pavement in the tire track areas and 4-5 feet of snow on the sides.
