Flights to BKK

Hi

I'm flying on the 20th of Dec and I've contacted the Airline (Aeroflot) yesterday.

So far they stand-by, they told me they haven't had any instructions on what to say to the travellers.
Anyway the airport is closed therefore I think the only thing to do is to wait and see.

Let's keep our finger crossed.

Ciao
Taomorris

I wouldn't worry too much about the situation at the moment - Thai tourism is of great importance at this time of year, esp European flights! The authorities there aren't likely to hold back using force to sort out the protesters in quick time - i guess they've got their message across by (cleverly) targeting the airports, but the revenue stream they're interrupting will be sorted out sharpish, i suspect. Enjoy Thailand, you lucky people!

Both of Bangkok's airports have been closed since late last week and so far protesters are still in control with no progress. The police did try to retake the main airport yesterday but it did not go too far. The government is proving ineffective in resolving matters with the army (especially) remaining neutral in the matter.

Other airports are around Thailand are still open and are unaffected apart from the natural disruptions caused by two important airports they connect with being closed. A number of hotels in Bangkok are serving as checkin counters for the airlines and transfers to/from a military airbase 150km SE of Bangkok are being offered. This is probably only making a minor difference as it is estimated that nearly 100000 people are stranded by now.

I am due to fly home from Bangkok on Friday arvo after 4 months working here. They estimate it will take 24-48 hours to make the airport operational again after the protesters leave so even if it ends mid-week (which is what is being tipped) I will end up being affected myself. Bangkok remains safe (and seemingly normal) unless you venture too close to the protest areas (like government house or the two airports) - another grenade attack against the protesters this morning was reported.

To keep an eye on things you can go to Home - Thaivisa.com - a good idea is to subscribe to the newletter to get the breaking stories.

Bangkok closed for air frieght

Hi, I'm currently in Bangkok and no cargo's moving from here. They are clearing some of the stranded passengers via a military airport south of BK.
I'm going to ride to Kuala Lumpa or Singa pore and get a flight to India from there. All's not lost!! www.pooleglobaltrek.com

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
