Unhappy 2 up on a KLR?....Let's tell it like it will be!!!

Also depends on your passenger's approach.... if it's mostly your idea and she's reluctant, you may end up with a lot of extra worries about her comfort etc. ..that may impact your experience of the trip....if she's keen then that may help overcome some degree of inconvenience discomfort etc.

You will likely have to pay a little attention to your route as a Jan 15 departure date may make some higher altitude roads less desirable due to weather...

It has seemed to me that the actual experience is always better than the imagined experience - sometimes different but most always better.

Another way of looking at it is to ask whether will you have a chance to do it again if you don't do it and then later regret it.....yolo...

It will be ok for you and horrible for your wife! If you are going to drag her along, get a bigger more comfortable bike for her to ride on. If you cannot afford one......go alone!
IMHO.....personally I have problems riding that distance alone on a KLR not to mention sticking your wife on the back.......thinking "OVERLOAD?" And your gear? where will that go?

I would venture to say you are more likely to get robbed in Hawaii than in Mexico and Central America. The dollar is very strong right now against the peso. If you do decide to take her, brake her in slowly but visiting some colonial cites and beautiful coastal beaches. I wouldn't push it and go with the flow. I have been to Mexico several times and I have had zero problems. I have also seem many motorcyclists from the states on the road in Mexico. Sleep well, eat well and slow down and enjoy the people and their culture. Headed to Copper end of March, chomping at the bits. Good luck, ride safe and whatever you do keep the misses happy.

Consider Panama

Hi There
Apparently, it's really tough to sell your bike in Costa Rica. It's like Mexico, they track the fact you rode in on your passport so it can be a hassle to fly out without it. In Panama, they're much looser in this regard. Last january we sold our bikes for cash in Panama City and flew home with no problems.
Have a great trip

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events (22 this year!); we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, the HUBB or to receive the e-zine. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
