We have been told that the situation on the road is now insecure because of election coming in America/Afghanistan. We are planning to pass the border beginning of october. Are there any motorbikers did the trip and can give us new information? How about armed escorts?

Don't be too paranoid - most Pakistanis very friendly.
The rule of law seems to hold along the main road from the border to Quetta but as you are travelling through tribal areas the state law only extends 1m either side of the main road.
If there are any security concerns then the police will arrange an escort for you - this will happen in other areas you travel through. They have had enough bad press lately and don't want to put tourists at risk.

Don,t worrie about Iran. It,s one of the most relaxed country,s in the world and perfectly safe.

Pakistan, although a bit more dificult to travel, is also pretty safe (safer then new york).
I was there (in quetta) on election-day... and though every foreigh office warned me about NOT going into the streets I was stupid and did. I had a great time.
Everubody liked to talk about politics and wanted to hear my (western) view.

About the road to quetta (tribal land).
I had a serious food-poisening there (which left me unconcious in the desert).
The so called "bandits" helped me, got a docter, treated me and expected no payment what so ever for it. If those are the bandit,s, I guess the good guy,s must radiate halow,s 24 hours a day.

iran is ok, no problem at all regarding safety ...road are good as i mentioned the road from tabriz to Zanjan is very trafficed so just be a bit careful there but nothing to worry about too much .... some people are having problems in getting their pakistan visa in teheran so i would recomend u get it in Turkey .,... for the rest iran is not a problem to travel ....

wouldn't be too paranoid about Pakistan, great and friendly people there.
If you don't make it in one day from the border to Dalbadin, you can camp at the custom house in Nokundi. We stayed there July last year and enjoyed the offered tea very much.

just crossed the baluchistan... got caught in a sand storm from dalbandin to quetta.
spent the night in dalbandin and apart from the noise had no problems.
plenty of boot leg iranian fuel along the route. take your time and enjoy the ride.

I crossed also without any problem, stayed at night at Dalbandin (not a nice place but break the journey). I just heard about problems of slippery tarmac in the mountains before Quetta.

No need to stress, just enjoy the dunes and the dead camels!
