Indeed, just what's this all about .. :confused1:

+ the news content of this thread.

If this is the prevailing way forward for foreign motor travel in Malaysia .. then it ain't good.

The cheap gasolin is heavily subsidised by the government, but they only want to support their own citizens.

Its so cheap that Singapore has restrictions on how much gas you (at least Sing citizens) must have in the tank (3/4 full), when leaving Singapore, and they measure it at the border.

In 2008 malyasia banned all sale of fuel to foreigners, within a distance of 50km from their borders

In 2009 cars with foreign plates will only be able to refuel a maximum of 20 liters of fuel within a 50km radius from Malaysia’s borders

no probs with petrol in Malaysia

We have been travelling round peninsular Malaysia by bike for the last 3 weeks and noticed these signs. However we always buy the 95 octane and nobody has questioned this at all! In fact some garages have only had 95 available. Dont know if it would be different if we were in a foreign car as opposed to on foreign bikes.

We were told it's to stop smuggling petrol into Thailand where it's more expensive.

Travelling now in Malaysia. Caltex sometimes a problem. Normally go to the special motorcyclepump and just tank 95 and payed cash to the servant. Otherwise you have to go to the counter and pay advance. In that case a "manager" can ask questions. Reply that my motorbike is specially designed for 95.
Price now 1,85 ringit/liter

We are living only an hour away from the Thailand border and have been in Malaysia now for many months, not once have we had any problems filing up our two foreign registered bikes with 95.

Also have never paid for fuel in advance, just go to the window and say you want to fill up and they will release the pump, or use your credit card in the pump but make sure it is a card that has a chip.

Fuel in Malaysia

Still the same .. Notices are on the pumps but we have had no trouble filling up with '95 (Yet!) even in JB, spitting distance from Singapore.
