It has been two yrs since my wife and I finished our RTW ride from China to Baja, Mexico. But the old bug is biting again. Now I have kidney failure but if we go on four (ugh) wheels, I think we can make it. Want to get thru Europe AsFastAsPossible and spend some time in the Stans, then on to Lake Bikal and then drop down to UB.
I have two questions, is the ferry across the Caspian still running and if so, are there still problems getting aboard?
Second question, it looks like a Carnet is NOT needed in ANY country we plan to travel thru, correct?

No carnet required, boat across Caspian should be fine still. The Stans are great, highly highly recommended.

Sorry to hear about the kidneys, bike related failure?

no way to know if it was bike related or just bad living for more than 60 years. The good part is that I can do the dialysis myself and just about anywhere I happen to be. Truth is that if I knew the results, I still would have made the trip and I won't let it stop me from going on the next one. On our date of intended departure we will be 70 and still able to make it! Mate with out being nosey why not take a dialysis machine with, packed?
might mean take less & more breaks, dunno I have no idea how big modern 1s are now days?

No machine needed
If I needed a machine I couldn't travel, generally no power. I am on CAPD (continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis) which means I pump 2 liters of juice into my abdomen and then drain it out some hours later. Generally supposed to do it 3 x/day but can get away with 2x/d. That means I have to carry about 100+ (60 bags) with me. No big deal, I just need the space in the vehicle. Won't stop living so I can stay alive a few months or years longer. Quality of life is more important than length. Thanx for the comments.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
