Honduras Borders

Hi Eric,

I am in the south of Guatemala right now heading for El Salvador in a day or two and then, hopefully, onward.

According to Govt. of Canada´s DFAIT site, the Nicarauguan border (and roads to it) are no longer closed, however there is a curfew in the two provinces adjacent to the Nicaraguan border.

An online article today from a Honduran newspaper said the Honduran President was implementing a curfew for Tegucigalpa, but the curfew would only affect that city. Not sure if this means the provincial curfews are finished or not.

I´ll try and update later when I find out more.

thanks for the update

thanks for the update, i am keeping a watch on the travel advisories as well, but as always local information is always the better. how are you two dealing with the darian gap? We are researching a few hostels in panama who take you to Columbia via sailboat. Once we have something concrete I'll forward it to you two. good and safe riding. Leaving 8/23 for the HU meeting in colorado,l and then on to mexico and guatemala for a bit of a spanigh tunup.

in an out of Honduras NO PROBLEMO

Hi
Now in Managua Nicaragua, came last night from Tegusigalpa Honduras this is the relevant info for bikers: (I ride a 1200gsBMW. Solo)
Entered Honduras from Guatemala via Agua Caliente rod all the way from Tikal so came to the border around 16:00 pm. the officaill's day shift was ending and had to wait until 18:00 for the new ones. the bank was closed and actually one shuld get there before noon to have evrything in order. I decided to take a helper for 3us$ thise guys know to run things and push. and I dont feel it is wrong to use them and help them too. any way, you shuld be prepeard to have all documents copied 3 times - driving licence. bike original woner documents. passport firs page (the one with your pic) it will save you a bunch - they take 1$ for a copy! anyway you will need to fotocopy the documents they will provide. and it is going to cost - prepare small cash!
the personal visa is 3$. the Honduras bike licence is 135$ (!) it took me 3 houres to get out. so be patiants and full with good mood. there is no way your anger will change the system. as I finished late i rode to the nearest motel and rode to Tegusigalpa the next morning. the roads are exellent! in Tegus. I felt very safe althogh you can see the tens and I was a subject for staring and asking questions I did not understand. anyway if you look for a good place in the old city go to Hotel Mac Arthur it is 35$ a night very clean and hase aclosed garage. you can go to Hotel Iberia which is 10$ 3 blocks from Mcarthur. both places are close to the main walking streets and all the coffi and food shops.
when crossing to Nicaragua I went to Las Manos. 100km ride got there at 13:00 here things were very fast and efficiant. I used a helper just to look after my bike when I was running around with documents. canceling the Honduras bike licence is 5 minuts with no charge and getting the Nicaraguan is quicker. jus smile to everyone they are doing their job and you will see things will eaven leave you with good taste.

Have fun
Yoni

! is right. You were ripped off,In too much of a rush because you showed up at the border too late in the day. Sorry . .The whole Honduras border tramites should have cost around only $40

Not uncommon to spend a bit more than required at the border, Yoni. Thanks for the info!

"You were ripped off"

When I started my trip I decided that nothing will make me mad. not eaven the feeling that people will take the edvantage of my weekneses. I realised on the spot taht something was wrong, but understood that instead of beeing "right" I should be "smart", meaning, I could stay there for the night wait for the next day and go through the 40$ process. but decided to go on. I dont regret it at all. its my once in a life time dream trip, not the "Be brave-save-regret what you gave" trip.

Anyway Thanks. I beleave you'r info will help those that will come next :)
