how many more mile with repair shock?
 

By the way,how many more mile I can go if my shock is repaired?
Especially on the dirt road through Bolivia..
Let me know..I have a 0 mechanic knowledge and keep learning like this..

Hello Se whan. Sorry to here about your mis-adventure...actually i take that back, i'm jealous as hell right now and wish i was there! My personal opinion on this, if you can get a shock for free then do it and keep on going. If not, then bite the bullet and get a good one shipped in. This is already number two and in the great scope of things you have just begun. Sounds like you found an Angel in Lima, get some rest and enjoy the sights of Peru without the bike for a few weeks. Definately get in touch with BMW and see if they can help you first, but even if they send you a new one, consider getting this problem part replaced with a good one before your left stranded with even more damage atributed to the shock breaking.

What's happened regarding your shock? If you haven't solved this problem by now, I have a used but perfectly serviceable F650GS stock shock sitting in my garage that I will sell you for a small fraction of the new price (perhaps 20%?) plus shipping and I can ship it to you immediately.

However, I need to know on this today as I'm leaving on a ride for the rest of the week early tomorrow AM.

I've found in my journeys that international adventure motorcycle travel often becomes an adventure in problem solving, one after another!! I hope you have this one solved, but if not I will help if I can.

How far with a knackered shock?

sorry to hear about your problems with your shock.
I rode an F650 to Africa last year- my shock broke completely just south of Timbuctoo and I rode all the way home (7,500kms) with it broken. In Morocco I met up with Sam Davidson and he helped with packing it with old bits of rubber and stuff. I got home and then had it replaced under warranty.
So...it is possible to ride some distance- though very uncomfortable, so not really recommneded. I didn't do any further damage to the bike.

I am looking at buying 2 F650s for a rtw next year, am i to presume i should upgrade the rear shocks before i go????

If so, where is a good place to start looking for aftermarket parts???

Good news and Bad news..^^
 

Good news is that
Lonestar BMW dealer at Austin,Texas send me a new shock to Lima,on warranty and they even pay to shipping cost for me.
They save me twice because they already had changed my original shock on warrnanty when I traveling Texas 6 months ago..

Bad news is that
I ask them "please,put a fake invoice that the price of shock is just 25USD"
as your guys recommended..
However,the custome officer in Lima dont' believe this,because it looks new and
it is a BMW..!!!
So he search the real price by putting the part number of shock on internet,then
got the price and charge me 40% tax +documental fee which cost around 200 USD totally..

Anyway,I'm so thanks to Lonestar BMW dealer,Austin,Texas who help me so much.

More interesting story..
 

I´m at Lima today then meet the guy who got a shock for me.
I find that the story is more funny..
The customs officer think it´s very expensive as it has a BMW logo,but
he cannot find how exactly much it is on internet.
So my friend tell him that it´s for the bicyle,not motorcycle.
So the officer believe this and search the internet again and got a 300 USD price as it´s a very big bicycle shock.
Then he put a 40% tax of 300 USD,then add some more.
So it became 162 USD..

Tomorrow,I will install the shock at bike shop in Miraflores.
They charge me 50 USD. I thinks it´s OK.
Also,I have to send it back to Lonestar BMW dealer,Austin,Texas.
This will also cost money..


The reason why I don´t fix it in Lima then go to Santiago,Chile to change it on warranty is ..I{m going to Boliva,so I feel that it will be broken again before I got to Santiago,Chile. But many guys told me it will be OK.
Also, I call to the BMW dealer in Equador,Bogota and Chile but all said that
they don{t have a stock now and it will take 3 weeks to get it.
Also,the bike shop in Argentina told me that I should go into one of town in Argentina to send it because the Tax is also very high in Argentina.

So,guys,when you have a same situation in Peru,the cheapest and fast way is that
fix the broken shock in Lima then go to BMW dealer in Santiago then change it on warranty..


Anyway,I have another problem..
THere are no tire of my size,17 rear and 19 front now..I should buy the Dakar..!! I feel so stupid now..OOOPPSSS
