Heated jackets on airplanes

If you have heated motorcycle jacket, don't wear it on an airplane. You may be "detained." At least tell officials what it is before they get suspicious.
"The woman first came to the attention of security officials at Charles de Gaulle airport when her leather motorcycle jacket aroused suspicion. "

Interesting story, however, I would re-phrase the recommendation: "If you have a heated motorcycle jacket, don't fly on a US airline", or "If you have a heated motorcycle jacket, don't fly to or from the USA".

Yea, I always wondered what would happen if I tried getting on a plane while wearing my electric vest with the wire and switch hanging from it... haha! To top it off, she was flying from the Middle East to the US. I don't think the security over-reacted in this one. Glad you posted it Chris - its a good reminder for all of us.

what if i want to carry 5 bullets in my pocket, am travelling on a sudanese passport and wish to fly from washington dulles airport to somewhere via yurop? is this allowed?...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3398181.stm

...the pot calling the kettle black.

seriously/ sadly, i travelled from ny-jfk to yurop a year or 2 ago and an arab-american security guard wanted to confiscate the silver bullet that hangs on a chain round my neck!

i believe he thought it was a security issue rather than an issue of taste in jewellery or music (viva bob seger)... i could understand the later.

he also insisted on searching an old frail lady in a wheelchair!! possibly there were rocket launchers in the handles?

long live common sense and brain power.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
