During a conversation with a friend who works for an insurance company in the north of ireland the subject of carrying extra fuel in a car surfaced rather unexpectedly. My friend pointed out that under the terms of the insurance policy on a car, that it was illegal to carry fuel in the vehicle in anything other than the vehicles fuel tank and that the insurance company may welll consider your insurance null and void. It might be worthwhile for everyone to check with their own insurance broker if this is the case anywhere other than the north of ireland and if it affects them.
