Although it is premature to suggest that vaccinations or route deviations will be needed, those who plan travel to this area might want to keep an eye on the development of this story.

I had the series of three plague vaccinations many years ago when I was living and working in a plague infested area of far northern Burma. Other than minor flu-like symptoms the day after the vaccination, I had no complaints.

It is very difficult to find this vaccine outside of a specialized travel clinic in a major western city.
