Burkina Faso Hijack
 

Just heard from an Italian couple we travelled with in Mauritania, that they were hijacked by Bandits while bush camping near Gorum Gorum, Eastern B Faso, Feb 10th. The Bandits took them into the Bush north of Gorum and dumped them with just a little water before leaving with there Nissan 4x4 pick up camper, and everything they owned, passports, cash etc, they were lucky. They walked to a nearby village and had a 12 hour donkey ride to the nearest police post.
If travelling through this area or the route to Gao, Eastern Mali, be extra vigilant and stay on a major route near a town or bush camp well away from pistes, stay in a bush camp only one night, travelling with another vehicle may not be safe enough as they will just take both.
