Bogota-Medellin-Cartegena-Venezuela
 

Ola Companeros. Planning to fly from Panama City into Bogota and ride up to Venezuela. Hopefully get into Bogota next week. Any thoughts? Recommendations? Horror stories? Stick to the main highways, ride early etc...

Hi Dan,
This is 2nd hand info from travellers I met on the road who travelled that route but south, first was a french guy in Argentina in Jan he had no problems,he stayed in Hotels and traveled early by main roads infact the only bit of a problem he had was in Peru, the 2nd was a swiss traveller in Feb who was travelling by the skin of his pants but again no problems. As I said this is 2nd hand info, sorry I cant be more help but you might get more help if you post this in the S.America forum.

ps there was a bit about trouble in Venezuela on the world service last night

Hi Dan,
You may need a visa for Venezuela when entering the country overland. There is a Venezuelan embassy in Cucuta, very efficient. Remember, Customs at border for motorcycle are closed Sat. and Sun. So make your plans.
From Bogota be sure to take road via Bucaramanga. The so-called Panamerican Highway is the pits, but oh so romantic.

will meet you coming the other way, will enter Colombia in maybe two weeks from Venezuela at Maicao.

Talk to the HU guys in Bogota and Medellin. They know which road to take and how to travel. Camilo in Medillin has traveled a lot in Colombia and other parts of Latin America.
