For the USA and Canada try www.motorcycleservices.com came highly recommended for my upcoming tour of the US

Progressive.com will also insure foreign licence holders on foreign machines in North America (with an extension for Canada) - you can arrange cover over the phone, you'll just need a US postal address... I understand that a PO Box is acceptable in the US, although a local hubber might be able to help in that respect perhaps?

Once you get into Mexico and beyond, it's not so straightforward - it tends to be arranged on a country by country basis, typically at the boarder... and perhaps what some of those policies are worth is anyones guess?

As for a shipping agent, there are any number in the UK depending on which airport (or sea port) you plan to use... Motorcycle Express is a well known company for air, and wilhelm wilhelmsen for sea freight are recommended... try using the search function in the USA sectiuon and see what else comes up?

I don't think you going to be able to get insurance for your bike further south than Mexico... And if you could, it would be HORRENDOUSLY expensive.

You can get 3rd party cover (you have to some places) for a vehicle in South America.

Many people just fake it as they have no way of checking it anyway.

I got 3rd party cover in Buenos Aires from a company called Sur Assure. They said it covered me in all of South America (if it did or not, who knows)..

I WAS asked to produce it in Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela although the yanks I was with at the time just flashed their fake medical insurance and it seemed to do the trick.

Make sure you have adequate medical insurance and get a fat lock for your bike. Its pretty much all you can do.

Yes, possible but expensive

Hey Acbus,
yes, thats possible. I did that trip and had the same questions. Now, for the North Americas (US and Canada) that shouldn't be a big issue, just be sure that you have a high enough 3rd party liability, otherwise you will be bankrupt, if in an accident (which hopefully will never happen) there is a person damaged...
From Mexico onwards until Argentina I used "American Underwriters". They cover either 3rd party or total loss etc. Means Theft.
I met lots of people that did not have any. And there are countries that make you buy their accepted insurance at the border (such as Mexico) no matter if I had my AU cover.
So decide for yourself, you can chose by country, by time etc.
Its expensive.
Enjoy
