One useful tip that maybe is just common knowledge is a great app called WordLens, you basically just point the camera at whatever Russian (Or German, Spanish, Italian for that matter) you want translated and without the need for internet connection it reads the word and translates it into your language without you having to input anything.

Works well on road signs and even menus. Doesn't too too well with hand writing.
