Rooftent and 'On the Trail' ladies toilet

Not the most widely talked about subject but one which affects us all.

We have a rooftent and, being of a certain age, can find the trip down the to the bushes in the night a bit of a pain. In the desert with a star lit sky it can be a memorable experience, in a muddy field in the middle of a thunderstorm it can be less than pleasant.

For us men a plastic 'sports' drinks bottle (or even a plastic milk bottle) can suffice. However the ladies may find it slightly more difficult to use.

My wife did a fair bit of research and tried the shewee but was not totally convinced. In the end we hit upon a cheap, readily available and effective solution.

The 'half height' plastic resealable (Tupperware) breakfast cereal containers tend to be elongated, narrower at one end and with a completely removeable lid. This makes them reasonably 'lady shaped' and at just the right height to be able to kneel over in a tent (and not miss:oops2:). They are, usually, only a few pounds and available from supermarkets, cookery shops etc. etc.

Because of their shape they also fit nicely into the rooftent pockets making them easy to find and difficult to tip over when full.

Most of them tend to have a seperate round hole in the top making them suitable for both 'parties'.

We just empty it out in the morning once we're up.

My dearly beloved also found that, when wearing a skirt, it could also be used in the passenger seat (sliding forward into the footwell) when the urge was too much and there was no external cover available. Without anyone realising.

Of course this is also just as good an idea for a ground tent. I hope it's of help to others.

I would like to point out that SWMBO normally sleeps right through and only needs to 'go' once she has been disturbed and woken up by the sound of running water created by me. Apprently needing to go in the night is a 'man thing':rolleyes2:

when I can't be faffed with the trip outside the tent, to answer my call of nature, I use this

http://www.whizproducts.co.uk/en/

Whiz freedom (I find it better than the shewee because this is more flexible and easer to mould to ones figure)

in conjunction with http://www.amazon.co.uk/Whiz-Freedom.../dp/B004W2GIOY whiz drainage bag.

I empty it in the morning. Packs down to nothing, keep the whiz in a zip bag, and the two items in a small waterproof bag.

Also use the whiz in horrid toilets where I wouldn't want to sit on the seat, or squat toilets where I don't want to risk falling over.

Sorry if you are eating your dinner folks!

Hope this helps

Fern
