Hi all i have read sumwhere on here about a.ATM card where someone ..say in the uk can pay x ammount into a bank and it can be drawn out in any country ???? thanks trand

Everyone can put money on your bankaccount and you can draw it from any ATM...if you can find one. The problem is how to get money in a cash economy. A lot of countries are cash economies. There is a solution to that problem and that solution is called "western union". Look at www.westernunion.com. Moneygram is a similar company.

If you have a Visa Debit card you can take money out at any ATM in the world, just like withdrawing cash at a UK cashtill. There's a small one-off charge for making the withdrawal, but Visa gives probably the best exchange rate, so it's cheaper than using money changers (and far quicker and easier). There are plenty of ATMs through Europe and Asia, barring a couple of countries.

In the UK, a current account with Smile (www.smile.co.uk) comes with a Visa Debit card as standard.

as harvey says: use a visa debit card in an atm. mine is from LloydsTSB. i have a current account with them. i used it everywhere.

with internet banking you can check your balance etc. all bank statements went to my parents who had power of attourney on my money while i was away. i advised them of all transactions. in over 2 years on the road there were no problems of banks/ anybody else accidentally or deliberate ripping me off.

didn't carry any travellers cheques. only some us$ cash for emergencies as well as a couple of credit cards (both visa). don't bother with amex, mastercard etc. visa debit and credit are accepted absolutely everywhere.
