ATM machine abuse - be careful

Hi,
I found this Link today:

http://www.polizei.bremen.de/sixcms/...en_Skimmer.pdf

Maybe this will be helpful to prevent credit card misuse. Its a leaflet from the German police and therefor in German but I think you can figure out the tricks by looking at the pictures quite easily. They show how your credit card information can be stolen at an ATM machine.
Have a safe trip!
Patrick

That last bit on the pamplet looks like the "card capture" devise that the crook puts in the card slot of the ATM. It catches and holds your card, and after you leave, they come and collect it.

Same in the UK: a city/town gets hit and the skimmers/scammers move on to the next - one piece of advice here is to hold your spare hand over the keyboard, while entering the PIN, so that any potential cameras cannot see the PIN code.
Also, where possible, use a cash machine that is inside a bank branch.

Atm scams

The scam you are talking about with the tape is called a "lebanese loop " , not too common in the Uk as the favourite one seems to be an entire false front to the Atm itself . To discover this you would have to grab the machine and try and move it about . Other scams are a pin hole camera above the card slot and then a further one in a "leaflet" box attached to the machine - both then record what you are up to .
Finally the biggest one to hit the area i work in is with Shell fuels - pin hole camera in ceiling , next thing you know is a withdrawal at the Bank of Barunde(?) .
If you have any specific queries please feel free to PM me and i will see what i can find out for you - obviously alot of the above is subject to change , we only find out when we catch someone

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
