Best season to ride to Asia.
ı've got many messages from riders in europe telling that they are planning to start a trip to asia in may, june, etc.
I must remind all the friends that; For your safe, happy and comfortable ride to the east after you leave turkey, you must be in turkey latest end of march and leave turkey latest mid of april so that you will not meet desert summer and desert storms in south iran, persia, and hard muson rains ,in pakistan and india. Also istanbul is the last place before the hard ride to the east where all spare parts, services, check ups available for all kind of motors. here are some photos from istanbul to nepal for the first tour we ve done. Yes, it probably can get dangerously hot in the summer southeast Iran & Baluchistan.
Also I would like to add, that if you´re heading from Europe to the Indian subcontinent before the winter comes, it is advisable to cross the eastern parts of Turkey, and northwestern parts of Iran, before the end of October. Those areas get very cold, at least for bikers - and temperatures vary each year, it can sometimes happen earlier, or later, so that´s just a rough guideline! Anyway, I would not plan to ride there in November, it it´s avoidable. End of September or early October could actually be the optimum, I think. And if you are able to escape the winter in those areas, then it typically gets warmer all the way through Iran, and may reach 30C, when you get closer to Pakistan, but still not unbearably hot, and the nights are much cooler. After Baluchistan and coming to the Indus valley, you reach the monsoon zone, but depending on how much time you have spent on the route, it should be coming to an end shortly. |

I think you're a little confused on that point. If you restrict it to South east Asia, then you are close, but Asia extends all the way North to the North pole and believe me there are very many variations in climate and seasons - sometimes even in one day. I have been snowed on in the Gobi (China / Mongolian) desert in mid-may in the morning, and endured the ravages of a blistering sun that same afternoon.
Actually come to think of it, I've also experienced the same thing riding through Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan and Nepal.

Hi James,
Welcome to HUBB. I would advise against flying/shipping your bikes to SIN. It's an exercise in bureaucracy and expense you can do without. Start in KL instead. Arriving by land or sea in either country you need a carnet. Funny thing is that if you cross from SIN into MAL late in the evening over the Tuas link customs will be closed and you can enter MAL without a carnet stamp. We did. An alternative to doing all the paperwork thing in SIN is to have your bikes carted across the border with BikeBulance. |
